Leaving Nice along the coastal highway, one comes to Eze , a small village perched on the side of a cliff just above the Mediterranean. A picturesque town and highly sought after tourist venue, Eze extends across three cornices. The seashore that extends from Cap Roux to Cabuel Point is renowned for its calm water and very lovely hiking paths. By walking up the middle Cornice, one comes to the center of the medieval city. Strolling around in the cobblestone streets of the old village, one can see houses restored with meticulous care, the Place du Centenaire and the Place du Planet, where an apricot tree and a Japanese medlar tree stand, along with the shaded fountains, and then further up, the ruins and gardens of the Eze Castle where, sheltered from the wind, walkers may sit and admire the view. On a clear winter day, the blue color of the sky and the sea is extraordinary, and one can make out Corsica on the horizon.
The village of Eze is close to a number of tourist venues and only nine kilometers from Nice , home of the Palais de la Méditerranée , a hotel of unmatched luxury . There are many attractions and monuments to visit in Eze : the cemetery, where Francis Blanche is buried; the Pénitants Blancs chapel, the Galimard soapworks and the Fragonar perfumes plant. The old city is home to many artists' and craftsmen's workshops.
