Printemps Haussmann

Printemps Haussmann

The Printemps Haussmann store was one of the earliest big department stores in Paris . Opened in 1865, thirteen years after Bon Marché was created, it is located on the Boulevard Haussmann in the 9th district, belongs to the Printemps Group chain of stores and is still their flagship store. The building that houses Printemps is considered to be a masterpiece of Art Déco style. Upon entering the store, one finds a central nave and a spectacular dome, along with galleries connected to one another by a bridge that is accessible via the grand stairway.

Printemps was the first department store to have electric power, in 1888, and escalators, in 1930. Quite modern for its time, the store continued to expand in the 1900's and became famous for its animated display windows at Christmas time, which are very finely done.

Today, the Printemps store maintains an image of upscale, luxury products, and focuses on fashion, fine living, beauty products, accessories and menswear. Occupying four buildings quite close to the Saint-Lazare train station, Printemps is close to other major stores on the Boulevard Haussmann , Galeries Lafayette , the Garnier Opera House and the Concorde Opéra Hotel , which is especially well located.
