Le Bon Marché started life as a small shop, in 1838, and later became a department store in 1850. The business prospered so the owner commissioned Gustave Eiffel and L.A. Boileau to construct a new building in 1897. On completion, it was considered the first department store in the world and satisfied a new surge of consumerism.
Today the store departments include Fashion, Home & Gifts and Beauty. In addition, the store has a Contemporary Art Exhibition as well as Cultural Exhibitions.
Located on rue de Sèvres on the Left Bank, the nearest metro stop is Sèvres-Babylone.
